Mame stands for Multiple Arcade Machine Emulator. It allows you to play a lot of arcade games with one application. The requirements depend on the games you are playing. If you are playing games from the early 80s they wont require the same specs as a game from the mid or late 90s. Lots of people have built their own wooden arcade cabinets and put a computer inside it with a Operating System and installed Mame to have the ultimate arcade.

Officially it only supports Windows and DOS, but there are plenty of other ports for Linux, Macintosh and other OSes and devices. There are also frontends to Mame which are basically graphical interfaces since Mame doesnt have a GUI. My favorite frontend is Mame32.

This emulator is designed specifically for the arcades Killer Instinct and Killer Instinct 2. You might ask why not just run them in Mame, well thats because even if you have a high end computer and an expensive video card, Mame won't run these two games at full speed even if you disable sound. But this emulator is designed specifically for these two arcades and will run both at full speed.
